Accessibility

The National Institute of Biology (NIB) is committed to making the website nanobreak.eu accessible, in accordance with Directive (EU) 2016/2102 on the accessibility of the websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies and with the Slovenian Act on the Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications (ZDSMA).

This statement applies to the website nanobreak.eu, including all of its pages and subsections.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the requirements of standard EN 301 549 and with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, because of the exceptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The following content is known not to be fully accessible:

  • Scientific imagery. The site publishes confocal microscopy images and time-lapse sequences. Their alternative texts state what is shown, the technique and the magnification, but a short text description cannot convey the full scientific information contained in the image. On request we can provide a more detailed description of any specific image.
  • Video sequences. The microscopy videos have no audio track, so no captions or audio description are required. Each one is accompanied by an on-page caption describing its content.
  • Documents and external resources. Some links lead to documents, repositories and conference websites operated by third parties. Their accessibility is outside the control of NIB.
  • Decorative and legacy content. Some images published before this statement may lack an adequate alternative text. They are being reviewed and corrected progressively.

Preparation of this statement

This statement was prepared in August 2026 on the basis of a self-assessment carried out by the team responsible for the website. It has not yet been subject to an independent external evaluation. The statement will be reviewed and updated when a formal audit is carried out or when significant changes are made to the site.

Measures taken

The site is built on a responsive layout that adapts to different screen sizes, uses text-based content rather than images of text, provides alternative texts for informative images, keeps colour contrast within the recommended ratios for body text, and keeps internal navigation links in the same browsing context.

Feedback and contact

If you encounter a barrier on this website, or if you need a piece of content in an alternative format, please tell us. We will reply as soon as possible.
